For the last many years Bharat has been facing the menace of aggression from our two closest neighbours. Pakistan has been trying to harm us by promoting terrorism, which to some extent the country may be able to face and conquer, provided political will is there. But in the case of China, they have been harming us in many ways. Since more than five / six decades from now, they tried to befool us by pretending that they are friends and well wishers of BHARAT. At the peak of such a rhetoric of “hindi chini bhai bhai” they stabbed us in the back by full fledged invasion on our country at many places falling adjacent to their borders. Some parts of the territory taken over by them, we understand, are still in their possession, which they are now claiming to be always their land. They are also claiming some other territories in the north and north east which are adjoining their borders, and are taking all possible steps to establish themselves there on permanent basis. They are helping Pak in various ways to get their sympathy and in return getting their bases in the shape of construction activities, to be in the eyes of world as helpers only but basically with the intentions to surround Bharat from all sides. For that very purpose mischievous helps are also being provided by them to our other neighbours in Nepal and Bangladesh, that too seemingly with ulterior motives against our country to fulfill their designs of expansionism. Hope that our Govt. is fully aware of all these developments and must be taking positive actions to contain the nefarious designs of the dragon. But in the eyes of the general public much more is needed to be done. As it is now clear, China not only has plans to spread itself on the earth, (i.e. taking more land into their possession) but is also having very bigger designs to economically over power the world, with special attention on our Bharat. Our country specially needs to be more careful and proactive to rubbish at least their these designs. As of now, we see many items of daily use, consumables to consumer durables, can say as from pin to aero plane, are available in our markets which are made in China. Even our festivals are lit by their lights and our idols of worship are also coming from China. This position need be treated as alarming and sufficient to make the governmental systems in our country to come out of the slumber and face the dragon head on. Otherwise China as it seems now will over power us physically and economically. Especially on economic front we need to be much more alert and formulate our policies, first of all to know as to what are the problems in our country that we are not able to manufacture these very items internally which are being imported from China so indiscriminately that our own industries and work force are sure to be losers, including our country in totality.
Some reasons for China being in a position to overpower our economy seem to be as under:-
As we gather from the media, electronic as well as the print one, work culture in China is much better than that in Bharat, meaning that their workers and administrative machinery, while at work, are totally committed to the work/job, might be by intentions or due to force of law. But this helps the products to be cheaper and these come out with more volumes. Compared to this in our own country, workers and administrators, while at work, do not seem to be attending to their jobs with the same zeal and commitment. Rather, many a time, the systems, political in particular, are more concerned to give more rights and safeguards to the workers, resulting in, especially in governmental works, lower output and thus increasing the cost of production. This clearly disables us to compete with China.
Still again, Labour Laws tilt too much in favour of the work force, to the extent that the feeling is that work or no work, jobs of the workers will remain always safe. This is a negative situation to induce the workers for higher productivity. We understand that governments are trying to make the private sector also the victim to the same set of laws and by enforcing reservations. This is bound to adversely affect our power to compete in the world markets, especially with China. To enforce reward and punishments for working class is the only method that can make them more responsible and cost of production may be brought down whereby making products cheaper. We, in our country, are doing every thing to pamper the work force by permitting too many holidays when manufacturing units and government offices, at all levels, are kept closed and workers just idle away their time, or in the process indulge in consumerism. For the days holidays are permitted, productivity at all levels comes down. Thus, low productivity adds further to the cost of production and product cost goes higher as compared to imports, especially from China. The system as such is requested to review this culture of holidays and permit only 2/3 full fledged holidays going by needs of different regions. In addition to this, beyond Sundays, 3/4 other holidays can be permitted on restricted basis which different workers/employees can avail, going by the needs of the festivals connected with their faith. This way, the work at all levels shall continue without hampering production and our products not going costly unnecessarily, and we should be able to compete others including China. Good to protect our products.
We have a fairly large number of engineering institutes in our country which, every year produce an army of engineers sufficient to run our production units in different industries, provided they are given the best possible education and training and the atmosphere conducive to good work is created including laws which can give them reasonable powers to ensure that while at work, the workers do their jobs with full commitment. This should help increase our production and productivity resulting in the items becoming competitive compared to the item imported, especially from China.
Many students, after passing out of the engineering colleges do not intend to work in the factories. They rather wish to go for white collar jobs of selling or after sale services or sales promotion. This nullifies the whole education of the subject given to them. The need is that after passing out as an engineer one should not be allowed to do any job which is not the job of an engineer. In other words, the education given and the training imparted to the students and the capabilities developed in them must be fully utilized by putting them on the appropriate jobs commensurate to the knowledge and ability of every individual. This may help our country a long way to compete with other countries including China, the Dragon who seems bent upon to cripple the economy of the entire world. India should rather create world opinion, so that many countries of the world, in the long run, do not have to see their industries and economies crippled and do not become dependent on China for one and all items of use.
No doubt, cost accounting is a vast subject and the factors affecting the cost of production are so many, but what can apparently be seen by a layman has been discussed in these lines.
As we see, China has tried to control spread of their population by enforcing maximum of one child norm for all couples and all able bodied persons are made to do full day’s job, wherever they are, without any relaxations and pampering. On the other hand, Bharat is producing more mouths to eat as spread of population is not put on check. Otherwise too, instead of making the population control work more sincerely and honestly, many types of freedom are given which in turn do not encourage control on child birth. This aspect of governance need be looked into and corrections made. In Bharat, too many facilities are being given to the workers and their wages are increased disproportionately to their needs and country’s economy. Good it is to give reasonable living wages and some thing for comforts also but why give so much for luxuries. This is only making others very demanding and it also develops the tendency of consumerism. Good it shall be to review these policies of the system. It should be very reasonable to ensure reasonable comfort and medical care for all in old age for which less money can be permitted in the hands of the workers and even others where they are working to ensure better safeguards and care to the old, sick and infirm ones.
A request is also made to the political system, the hierarchy, the bureaucracy, the media and the concerned citizens of Bharat to create awareness in the system so that we do not inadvertently strengthen the dragon whose intentions, as we have seen earlier too, are as expansionist and unpredictable.
